      <image:title>Home - What is Trauma?</image:title>
<image:caption>I often hear people question whether they have experienced trauma. What is trauma? What does it look like? Are there certain reasons why some people are impacted versus others? It is important to know that trauma is a survival reaction that occurs within the bodies nervous system and the brains amygdala. Simply said, when a person experiences trauma, the exposure is too overwhelming for the body and brain to make sense of the stimuli. A person does not logically decide to have a reaction to trauma. No two people have the same experience or reaction. A reaction to trauma can happen throughout a person’s lifespan. Trauma that occurs during childhood can potentially impact development, thus creating challenges as you enter adulthood. Because trauma has the potential to impact development from being in utero until about 30 years old, it is important to take your history into consideration when understanding current symptoms. I often explain to my patients that there are two different classes of traumas; safety and attachment wounding. A safety trauma can be considered a car accident, a natural disaster, war, 9/11, a sports injury, and all forms of abuse, to name a few. An attachment wounding trauma is one that is not considered as often. I describe attachment wounding traumas to patients as the things we needed in childhood but didn’t get. Examples of this is love, support, validation, acceptance of self, attunement, nurture, and emotional support, to name a few. Every patient’s story is uniquely theirs. Of course, our past is going to indicate parts of our current and our future. We will collaborate to create a treatment plan specific to your needs and goals. I provide psychoeducation on the impact trauma can have on the body and brain. I will also provide you with information regarding different therapies for healing, so you can make an informed decision that feels right for you.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Services Offered - Individual Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Each session is 50 minutes in length. During the first visit, we will discuss important paperwork related to your rights and responsibilities, consent, practice policies, and confidentiality. I will also offer you the opportunity to ask any questions about the therapeutic process, including any expectations you have for me. Thereafter, I will inquire about the reason for your visit. I will gather background information on you, your family, your relationships, and the goals you have for therapy. Sometimes it can take 2-3 sessions to fully gather this information. Do not feel rushed to tell me everything during the first session. Sessions after the first visit continue to be 50 minutes in length. If you wish to have a longer session, please discuss this with me in advance.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Services Offered - Video Telehealth therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Many changes have occurred since Covid, including the increase in services offered via telehealth. You might have some reservations about telehealths ability to meet your needs, which is a common assumption. I can assure you that telehealth therapy is and can be just as effective as in-person therapy. Some people even like it more. There are a few different requirements for telehealth, which I am happy to discuss with you before making an appointment. Patients using telehealth will also use the SimplePractice portal to access appointment scheduling, paperwork, payment, communication, etc. You can use a phone, tablet, or computer for telehealth sessions.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Me - Hello, I’m Jenna. I am a Licensed Clinical Practicing Counselor, working with adults only. I truly enjoy meeting new clients and supporting them in their journey towards wellness. My goal is to bring awareness and support to those who are struggling. I specialize in trauma informed care, ego states/parts work, body and breathe work in relation to understanding somatic experiences, postpartum recovery and care, and providing the language of emotion to patients. My past experiences are private practice in a rural community, providing individual and group therapy to the collegiate population, crisis management, and sexual violence prevention education and advocacy. I work best with clients who are ready for something to change. I attended school in the Fargo/Moorhead area; Concordia College for my undergraduate degree and Minnesota State University Moorhead for my masters degree in Counseling and Student Affairs in 2014. I have been working in mental health since 2007 and believe counseling is one of my vocations. Counseling is powerful. I am a believer of the positive outcomes that can occur when one commits to the tough work. I, myself, attend counseling. Counseling can help us by becoming aware and acknowledging our pain, learning how this pain can limit us, feel and grieve the pain, and building resiliency to move beyond the pain. Counseling is now considered to be part of an overall wellness wheel. One does not need to have a “diagnosis” to benefit from services.</image:title>
